The all India ranking Table Tennis Tournament began on Wednesday at Dadoji Konddev stadium in Thane.
The tournament is organised by Thane Municipal Corporation under the flagship of Thane District Table Tennis Association and recognised by the Table Tennis Federation of India and Maharashtra State Table Tennis Association.
The tournament will be held till October 19, beginning Wednesday, and offers a cash prize of Rs 5.76 lakh.
“Around 800 players from states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, West Bengal, and Gujarat among others, including few national and international players are participating in the tournament,” said TMC PRO Sandeep Malvi.
The tournament is being played in ten different groups, such as cadet boys singles, cadet girls singles, sub-junior boys singles, sub-junior girls singles, junior boys singles, junior girls singles, youth boys singles, youth girls singles, men’s singles and women’s singles.
National players like Sanil Shetty, Somajeet Ghosh, Abhishek Yadav, Archana Kamat, Manusha Shah, Ankita Das, Manika Batra, among others will be present.
“This tournament will also be semi-finals for selecting a team to represent India in international and upcoming Olympics championship” added. Malvi.
The price distribution for the cadet and sub-juniors groups will be held on Thursday at 8:00 pm, in presence of PWD and Thane’s Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare, Mayor Sanjay More.
